What is felting?  Wool + Hot Water+ Agitation= FELT.

Felting is the matting together of wool fibers.  Felted items
listed here have been carefully knitted into hats or bags
and then purposely shrunken to create a very dense and
matted texture.  This makes for a durable piece of fabric
without the 'holes' of the original knitting.

How long does it take to make a hat/bag?
The answer varies by design.  But let's use two items from each
category for examples.
Hats  (*a few can be found on the how to purchase page of this site.)
  • The child's felted ear flap hat took me about 8 hours to knit.  After the
knitting was completed, I felted the item.  Felting took about 1/2 hour
and then it took about 24- 48 hours to dry.  Total working time 8 1/2
hours and 300 yards of yarn.
  • The basic rolled brim hat took me about 6 hours to knit.  The felting
took 1/2 hour and then again 24-48 hours to dry.  Total working time 6
1/2 hours and 400 yards of yarn.
Bags
  • The Carry-On Style tote took me about 20 hours to knit.  Felting took
approximately 50 minutes and then more than 48 hours to dry.  Total
working time 21 hours and 1700 yards of yarn.
  • The Spring Fling bag took me about 12 hours to knit.  Felting took 1/2
hour and it needed over 24 hours to dry.  Total working time 12 1/2
hours and 800 yards of yarn.

Pricing
All of our items are priced according to the amount of yarn
